New tariffs on goods shipped to the USA

The U.S. Government has announced regulatory changes affecting how shipments into the United States are processed and charged.

Aramex will continue to deliver to the U.S. We remain ready to support your international shipping needs.

What’s Changing?

  • All shipments to the USA will now incur additional duties and taxes, regardless of the value of the goods being shipped. The previous exemption for goods under $800 USD (“De Minimis Duty-Free Exemption) will no longer apply, effective from August 29, 2025.
  • Mandatory tariffs now apply to all shipments into the U.S. Most goods shipped from New Zealand to the USA will incur a 15% tariff, though some categories may be higher. You can find more information here: mfat.govt.nz/en/trade/mfat-market-reports/us-trade-update-8-august-2025

To ensure transparency and to effectively manage these new duties and taxes, all USA-bound shipments will be held by our team in Auckland before exporting. You (the sender) will be notified of the estimated tariff, which must be approved before the shipment is released and sent overseas.

Your Shipping Options

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)

  • Sender pays all costs, including shipping, clearance, tariffs, and taxes.
  • Shipments will be held for tariff approval before export.
  • Accurate documentation is essential (please see details below).

DDU/DAP (Delivered Duty Unpaid)

  • Recipient pays duties and taxes upon delivery.
  • A $12 USD International Collect on Delivery (ICOD) fee has been introduced in the U.S. and will apply when duties are unpaid prior to delivery (collected from the consignee directly). This fee is in addition to the duties and taxes payable.

Ensuring Smooth Customs Clearance

To avoid delays and unexpected charges, please ensure the following for all shipments to the USA:

  • Accurate Declared Value: Ensure the commercial invoice reflects the true value of goods.
  • Clear Product Description: Use specific, non-generic descriptions (e.g., “Men’s cotton T-shirt”).
  • Consignee Identification: Provide the recipient’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) or Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Proper Packaging & Labelling: Ensure labels match the invoice and customs documents.

We’re here to help you navigate these changes and ensure your shipments to the U.S. are processed smoothly. You can rely on Aramex to provide a reliable, trusted international delivery service.
